TASTING NOTES:

A bewitching wine. Its colour lightens with age, offering a light mahogany hue. Aromas of tobacco leaf, praline, coffee liqueur, and toasted almonds unfold before shifting into the world of warm spices with a whisper of aged orange liqueur. A wine full of life and dazzling freshness, its finish is long, lifted by a gentle, structuring bitterness..

FOOD PAIRINGS:

This 30-year-old wine reveals an astonishing vitality and freshness. It pairs beautifully with aged Comté, blue cheeses, or desserts made with praline or dried fruit. Open one hour before serving at 15°C.

TERROIR AND VINE MANAGEMENT:

South-facing slopes of decomposed schist and black marl. Soils are regularly tilled. Goblet-trained vines over 40 years old. Average yield: 18 hl/ha. Planting density: 3,500–4,000 vines/ha.

GRAPE VARIETIES :

90 % Grenache noir, 5% Maccabeu, 5% Carignan

GRAPE HARVEST :

Hand harvesting. Destemmed picking

WINEMAKING:

Extra alcohol is added during the fermentation while the wine is still on the skins (mutage sur grains), and then the whole is allowed to macerate for 30 days to extract the aromas and polyphenols from the grapes, ensuring a nice balance of fruit, alcohol and sugar.

MATURATION AND BOTTLING:

One year in glass demijohns outdoors under the sun, followed by ageing in old 350-hl oak casks for at least 30 years. This exceptionally long ageing, a true Mas Amiel signature, allows the wine to develop profound aromatic maturity and structural depth.

30 Years of Age

My favorite of the multi-vintage blends, the NV Maury 30 Ans is similarly colored to the 20 year, with an amber/toffee and semi-opaque color. Slightly less sour than the 20-year release, with more fruit, this beauty is drinking spectacularly today.

30 Years of Age

A complex nose with dried fruit, grilled meat, dried herbs, black earth, walnuts, ripe plums and spices. Focused, polished and harmonious with a lively, vibrant mid-palate. Textural and pleasantly bittersweet towards the flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

GUIDE TO THE FRENCH WINE REVIEW 2023
30 Years of Age

The Maury 30 Year Old is also superb with candied orange, Medjool date and coffee; the alcohol is perfectly integrated and the sweetness controlled.

Heritage & Legacy

THE OXYDATIVES OF MAS AMIEL

UNIQUE WINEMAKING TECHNIQUE

Our oxidative Vins Doux Naturels, made from old-vine Grenache grapes fortified while still on the skins, spend one full year under the open sky in glass demijohns, exposed to the Roussillon sun and its dramatic temperature shifts, before continuing their slow, decades-long evolution in century-old casks.

VINIFICATION OF SWEET WINES

THE PERFECT PAIRING WITH CHOCOLATE & CHEESE

Oxidative wines pair beautifully with sweet dishes such as desserts or chocolate, unveiling their full aromatic richness.

Thanks to the unique character of Grenache grown on the Mas Amiel terroir, these winesretain remarkable freshness and vibrancy, resulting in a beautifully balanced wine.Their distinctive rancio notes, resulting from the long natural oxidation, also open the door tomore daring pairings, such as aged cheeses, walnuts or coffee, offering profound and refined tasting experiences

PARCELS, GRAPE VARIETIES & TERROIR

90% Grenache Noir, 5% Maccabeu, 5% Carignan

The soils, composed of weathered schist and black marl, benefit from a full south-facing exposure that ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. Vineyard management prioritises traditional ploughing to preserve living soils and encourage deep root systems. The old-vine Grenache, over forty years of age and trained in the traditional goblet bush form, delivers naturally low yields of around 18 hl/ha, with a planting density of 3,500 to 4,000 vines per hectare.
