TASTING NOTE:

An impressive nose, starting with a zest of pomelo and orange, following with the notes of blackberry and black currant. On the palate this wine is rich with fruit flavours balanced nicely with firm acidity. This wine offers plenty of opulence and aromatic freshness, the sign of a great Grenache wine derived from calcareous schist and red clay.

FOOD PAIRING :

Roast or confit duck, roast beef or T-bone steak.

TERROIR AND VINE MANAGEMENT:

This terroir is situated within the Deveze district. The vineyard is planted on a unique 2-ha parcel having different types of soil. Decomposed calcareous schist is mixed with blue limestone, situated upon a fringe of iron-laden clay. The soils are tilled on a regular basis.
The yield is limited to 20 hl/ha. Old vines, more than 50 years old, are grown 100% biodynamically.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

Old vines of Grenache Noir, planted with Syrah (about 8% of the vines within the parcel) highlight the freshness of this terroir. Citrus (lemon and blood orange) and blackberry notes come to the fore, as well as floral aromas.

HARVEST:

Double manual sorting of the bunches on a belt and vibrating table.
A third of the harvest is de-stemmed.

WINEMAKING :

In 50 hl stainless steel vats.

MATURATION AND BOTTLING:

In concrete vats until bottling.

Boasting knockout floral aromas of roses, violets and garrigue entwined with blueberries and raspberries, the 2020 Maury Sec Vers le Nord is complex and fragrant. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from cooler, north-facing sites, it's full-bodied and supple, yet structured, with soft tannins but enough acids to hold things together. Then it finishes lush and long, with echoes of stone-fruit flavors.

Vers le Nord is a dry Maury with beautiful aromas of peony and wild pepper. The mouth is still narrow and the tannins a little dry in the finish, but fresh.

Lots of liquorice on the nose. Red fennel and paprika! Spicy spicy spicy. Cranberries and red earthiness. Long and savoury and crunchy. So deliciously ambrosial and singing that it's almost easy to overlook how very seriously beautiful this wine is.
